1  Introduction

For its fourth year, we are re-launching and rebooting the C3 Boot Camp. We are now calling it the C3 Modern Data Science Boot Camp. Our goal is to help develop modern data scientists through the teaching of computation, statistics, machine learning and AI, all in the context of the R programming language.

The C3 Boot Camp is targeted towards postdoctoral scholars and clinical fellows in cancer research, but we encourage anyone affiliated with UCSF to apply. Due to the changed focus of the Boot Camp, some who already have participated in it may want to join again. Participants who commit to the whole two weeks of instruction will be given priority for admission. The first week, focusing on the R programming language, will be taught in person by the organizers at UCSF Mission Bay every day from 4-6pm between 10/26 and 10/30. The second week, focusing on all other topics of the Boot Camp, will be held in person at Mission Bay every day from 9am-4pm between 11/02 and 11/06, with breakfast and lunch included. Mornings will include lectures from the organizers, while afternoons will be focused on hands-on work related to the topics that have already been taught.

The deadline for the application is October 9th. Acceptances will be given by October 13th. The Computational Cancer Boot Camp is free of charge to participants due to the generous sponsorship of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) and the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute. The Computational Biology and Informatics (CBI) Shared Resource of the HDFCCC and the UCSF Scientific Software Core (SSC) developed the content of the boot camp.
